The Stephane Farouze' vision, founder of Pure Salmon

A new milestone for Pure Salmon in Brunei

Stephane Farouze, Founder & Chairman of 8F Asset Management, through the setting up of Pure Salmon Brunei, continues to realize Pure Salmon’s ambition to become the world’s leading sustainable salmon producer by deploying recirculating aquaculture system (“RAS”) based salmon farms around the world.

Following on from the projects already announced in Japan, the United States and France, South-East Asia will now also benefit from healthy and fresh salmon, produced locally for local consumption, through the establishment of Pure Salmon Brunei. With ideal conditions for establishing a salmon RAS facility, and a burgeoning local salmon market, Brunei appears ideal for supplying South-East Asia.

Pure Salmon

After a 30-year career in international finance, and many successful experiences, Stephane Farouze has identified in RAS a farming method that can solve all the current challenges of the salmon industry.
RAS indeed has several key benefits including efficient fish production in a safe and sustainable manner without causing harm to the environment while also allowing for farming facilities to be located close to main consumer markets and thereby reducing the carbon footprint associated with long airfreight of conventional salmon producers.

Using RAS, Pure Salmon delivers a clean, healthy, and fully traceable salmon that is raised in a fully controlled environment that closely replicates the positive features of salmon’s natural habitat which does not require the use of antibiotics or hormones that are widely present in the conventional sea-cage salmon farms.

State-of-the-art technology

To achieve Pure Salmon’s ambition, 8F Aquaculture Fund I acquired Pure Salmon Kaldnes in June 2021 to vertically integrate its state-of-the-art RAS technology into all Pure Salmon facilities.

Pure Salmon Kaldnes designs turnkey aquaculture facilities and systems and offers a full range of value-added services, including maintenance, consulting, operational support and training. Pure Salmon Kaldnes is one of the few RAS providers worldwide that has delivered large-scale facilities based on proven RAS technology to its demanding customers, e.g., world’s largest salmon companies.

Pure Salmon Kaldnes’ cutting-edge technology will enable Pure Salmon to grow healthy and happy salmon in Brunei, delivering salmon of exceptional quality to consumers in the region.

Processing expertise

Through 8F Asset Management, Pure Salmon also acquired the processing activities and know-how of IOD Seafood, now Pure Salmon France, a highly regarded processor and smoker in France. Pure Salmon France uses artisanal methods (e.g. dry salting by hand, rope smoking, etc.) and has helped Pure Salmon to rapidly develop its expertise in salmon processing and smoking, as well as in brand development.
This processing know-how will be established and implemented in all Pure Salmon facilities around the world, following Stephane Farouze’s vision, including Pure Salmon Brunei, which will benefit from French artisanal processing technique and branding.

Pure Salmon sells its products under the following brands:

  • La Petite Fabrique Du Saumon Fumé,
  • La Petite Smokehouse,
  • Iod Traiteur De La Mer, and
  • Cuisine d’Aromes

To optimize the reuse of the offcuts from processing and in line with its circular economy philosophy, Pure Salmon has developed and already launched its Pet Nutrition business, with an effective go-to market strategy and brands: Marly & Dan, and Share.
